Biography:

Since 2012, Dr. Charles-Liscombe has been the department chair and an associate professor at the Mount.

A certified and licensed athletic trainer with prior clinical experience at NCAA Division I, II, and III colleges and universities and community events, Dr Charles-Liscombe envisions a community where everyone has the opportunity to pursue their goals and achieve optimal well-being.

He believes that every Mount graduate from the Department of Exercise Science and Integrative Health should: 

  • advocate for physical activity in all forms,
  • develop as compassionate and highly qualified healthcare and fitness professionals,
  • serve as role models for others, and
  • create strong, supportive, and nurturing environments for families and communities.

He is an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hiking, biking, paddle sports, camping, and do-it-yourself projects. He was ranked 5th on the depth chart of every sport, at every position, he ever played in middle school and high school. His love of exercise science blossomed however, after he realized competition wasn’t his motivator to be active. He found his passion for sports medicine as a result of those experiences.

Teaching: 

He teaches a variety of courses in the department including
• Pathways to the Health Professions,
• First Aid and Basic Life Support,
• Epidemiology of Physical Actiivty and Health,
• Health Promotion and Programming,
• Principles of Health Assessment and Exercise Prescription
• Physiological Adaptations and Management of Stress
• Healthcare Administration. 

Advising: 

He currently serves as a faculty advisor for HES majors and serves as the Graduate School Planning advisor for students interested in professional studies in: athletic training, dietetics and nutrition, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.

Campus Leadership: 

He is on the leadership team of the Exercise is Medicine On Campus committee. He has been a facilitator of faculty learning communities on classroom assessment techniques, student engagement, student retention, and interprofessional education in health care. He has served on the University’s Facilities, Infrastructure, and Technology Subcommittee of the Board of Trustees.

Scholarship: 

His research involves the scholarship of teaching and learning, active learning strategies in the classroom, social determinants of health and food insecurity, interprofessional education in healthcare, standardized patients and moulage in AT education, faculty development issues in higher education, and academic role strain.

He has been an invited speaker at the state, regional, and national meetings of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions, and the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions.

Academic Citizenship: 

Dr. Charles-Liscombe currently serves on the Ohio HOSA – Future Health Professionals State Advisor Board and is a commissioner with the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

He has previously served on the executive boards of Ohio and North Carolina Athletic Trainers Associations. He has been a site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Athletic Training and the Athletic Training Education Journal.

He is a member of the NATA, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Association of Athletic Training Educators.

Community Citizenship: 

He is the committee chair for BSA Troop 483 and the Delhi Swim Club Stingrays Swimming and Diving team.

Awards: 

Dr. BC was named the 2008 NCATA Athletic Training Educator of the Year and received the NATA AT Service Award in 2019.
