Biography:

Joseph Rivers serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Mount St. Joseph University. His duties include teaching class piano, music education courses, coordinating music for special masses in Mater Dei Chapel, recruitment, and conducting the University Singers and Chamber Singers.

In the community, Joseph is an active educator, conductor, and performer. He works with school choirs throughout Greater Cincinnati to prepare them for upcoming performances and adjudication. As a conductor, he was the assistant director of the University of Cincinnati Men’s Chorus (2017-18) and a guest conductor for Kenton County’s All-Star Chorus (2017).

He has sung with several professional choirs, including Collegium Cincinnati, Schola Cincinnati, Coro Volante, and Cincinnati’s Vocal Arts Ensemble. As a church musician, he was the Director of Music at St. James Episcopal Church in Westwood (2015-18) and currently sings at Church of the Redeemer in Hyde Park.

Outside of choral music, Joseph has a great interest in musical theatre. He is the Vocal Music Director of Turpin Theatre and works with students for their spring musical and other special events. During the summer, he serves as the Music Director of the Commonwealth Artist Student Theatre, a Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati theatre collaborative, that through professional quality productions, arts instruction and developing community relationships, empowers students to achieve their artistic potential under the leadership of professionals.

He is a proud member of the National Association for Music Education, American Choral Directors Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America.
