Biography:
Dr. Murray is a professor in the Department of Biomedical and Natural Sciences and teaches courses in gross anatomy, forensic science, and medical terminology. She is a graduate of the College of Mount St. Joseph who went on to obtain her master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cincinnati, focusing on skeletal biology and forensic anthropology. Dr. Murray is now retired from active casework, but was a board-certified forensic anthropologist and assisted in both forensic and historic skeletal investigations on the local, regional, national, and international levels from 1986 to 2020.
Among her varied publications, Dr. Murray’s 2010 book, Death: Corpses, Cadavers, and Other Grave Matters, was selected as one of the “Top 10 Summer Reads” for students by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Her 2012 release, Forensic Identification: Putting a Name and Face on Death, was chosen by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) as one of their “Outstanding Science Trade Books K-12: 2013”. In 2012, the Teaching Company (now Wondrium) released Dr. Murray’s 36-lecture DVD set, Trails of Evidence: How Forensic Science Works, as part of their “Great Courses” Series. Her 2022 Wondrium series, How We Move: The Gross Anatomy of Motion, won a 2023 Silver Telly Award in the Non-Broadcast General-Education & Training category.
