Biography:

Maria Brown is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and teaches graduate Medical Pharmacology in the Physician Assistant Studies Program. Maria grew up in Northern Kentucky and attended Mount St. Joseph University for her undergraduate degree in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry. She continued her doctoral studies at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology & Cell Biophysics. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the role of transcription factor NF-kB in transgenic and surgical models of cardiomyopathy. Her most current research embraces teaching and learning focusing on pedagogical methods to increase student retention in introductory level Biology courses. She enjoys the challenge of teaching students from their first semester of their freshmen year to the third semester of their graduate studies.

Maria lives in Northern Kentucky with her husband, four children, two dogs, a cat, a hamster, bees, and chickens. She serves on her local school board, gardens, and runs in her spare time.
