Biography:

Swati Chopra is a communication design practitioner, educator, and researcher whose work encompasses artificial intelligence, typography, data visualization, user interface and user experience (UI/UX), brand identity, packaging, editorial design, and human-centered design. She is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at Mount St. Joseph University.

 

In 2026, Swati Chopra received the United States Senate Recognition for Faculty Excellence, following her selection as Mount St. Joseph University’s 2025–2026 Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) Faculty Excellence Award recipient. She was also honored with the S. Adele Clifford SC Award for Excellence in Teaching and Student Impact, one of the university’s highest faculty distinctions. These awards recognize her student-centered teaching, mentorship, dedication to experiential learning, service, scholarship, and significant contributions to student success.

 

With more than 18 years of professional experience, Swati Chopra has collaborated with startups, cultural institutions, healthcare organizations, and global corporations. Her portfolio includes design projects with Johnson & Johnson, Boeing, Jack Rouse Associates, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and GuestBox. She holds seven granted design patents with Boeing.

 

At Mount St. Joseph University, Swati Chopra established Design Hub, a faculty-led, student-driven design studio. Through this initiative, she mentors students as they engage with real clients, develop professional design competencies, and produce portfolio-quality work. Modeled on a professional creative studio, Design Hub connects students with campus partners, community organizations, and external clients, including national and international collaborators. The program has been recognized for advancing experiential learning, enhancing student portfolios, and facilitating the transition from classroom learning to professional practice.

 

Prior to her appointment at Mount St. Joseph University, Swati Chopra taught at the University of Cincinnati, including the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) and the Digital Media Collaborative, while also contributing to Johnson & Johnson’s Medical Devices instructional design team. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Design from the University of Cincinnati, where she was recognized as a Yates Scholar. Her thesis, Managing Uncertainty: Self-Care Tools for Enhancing Student Learning Experiences in the Design Disciplines, received the DAAP Cares Award. Her project AntiOD, which seeks to expand public access to anti-overdose medication, was a finalist in Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas in the Health & Wellness category.

 

Swati Chopra has published multiple research papers and continues to integrate scholarship with design practice. Her teaching emphasizes human-centered design, creative problem-solving, professional readiness, and mentorship, supporting students in developing distinctive creative voices and industry-ready portfolios.
