4+1 MBA student John Kolar met some of his closest friends on the MSJ basketball team after transferring to the Mount.
What is your year and major? What is your anticipated graduation year?
I am a senior in the 4+1 MBA program. I just graduated with my undergrad and plan to have my MBA by this upcoming summer!
Why did you choose the Mount, and what sport do you play?
I chose the Mount because of the MBA program and it was close to home. It allowed me to spend more time with my family and friends while attending school. I also liked the basketball program and have played in it for the last two years.
How did the Mount help accommodate your transfer needs?
The Mount helped me with everything I needed to successfully transfer. Everyone was super helpful in making sure all documents and other necessities were found and submitted in time.
Describe the bond you have created with your teammates at the Mount. How have they supported you as a new team member?
I have met some of my best friends through the basketball team. I am even the best man in a former teammates wedding this September! Everyone was super welcoming and always willing to help out in any way possible.
Are there any staff, coaches, or professors you would like to credit who helped accommodate your transfer experience?
Ms. Mazuk has been an absolute godsend with the academics at MSJ. Coach Carrigan, Coach Scudder, and Coach Goodwin have all been extremely helpful as well in academics as well as on the court. They have helped me develop as a leader and teammate.
Describe one of your favorite memories at the Mount so far.
One of my favorite memories at the Mount was when our team beat Hanover at Hanover to end the season. We had a rough season full of ups and downs and to end on a high note was really motivating for the guys over the summer and this upcoming season.
What advice or recommendations would you give to transfer student-athletes who are looking to balance athletics while attending the Mount full-time?
One piece of advice I can offer for anyone looking to balance sports and academics would be to use the people around you. The Mount does everything possible to help us succeed as students. The learning center is always there to help with studying, homework, papers, and much more.
