Kyle Schenkewitz, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Religious Studies in the Mount’s Department of Liberal Arts, was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal church Saturday, June 1.

He was one of three ordained that day at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Cincinnati by Bishop Kristin Uffelman White, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio.

A half dozen Mount colleagues attended the celebration. Sister Karen Elliott, C.PP.S., Ph.D. and Elizabeth Bookser Barkley, Ph.D., assisted in vesting him before he was consecrated a deacon.

Schenkewitz holds a Ph.D. in historical theology from St. Louis University, and teaches a variety of courses in the Department of Liberal Arts: Introduction to Biblical Literature, History of Christianity, Christian Scriptures, Theological Health Care Ethics, Environmental Ethics, and the Liberal Arts Culminating Experience.

He and his wife Jean reside in Delhi with their two children, Abby and Caleb.
