Are you a forensic science junkie who is obsessed with the solving of cold cases? If so, the Criminology Club would like to invite you to a special event on 12/6/2024 from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm in CL 201. Dr. Beth Murray will be presenting about Ohio’s “Buckskin Girl”.
Title: Cold Case Resolution Using Genealogy – Ohio’s “Buckskin Girl”
Dr. Beth Murray, a professor within the Department of Biomedical & Natural Sciences at Mount St. Joseph University and retired forensic anthropologist, will present a summary of the famous Buckskin Girl case from Miami County, Ohio. The young woman’s recently deceased body was discovered along the road, in April of 1981, by passing motorists, and despite a wealth of evidence, the case went cold. Dr. Murray became involved in 2009, when she consulted for the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs). Finally, in April of 2018, after almost 40 years, and a great deal of testing and evidence, this case was finally solved by genetic/forensic genealogy. In fact, it was the first public solve by genealogy in the world!
Come learn about the case and more about how genetic genealogy works, as it has become a major method for gaining leads using DNA!
All are welcome and there is no need to RSVP, but spaces are limited so plan accordingly!
