As a 24-month (six-semester) full-time program, the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) degree prepares students to earn the certified athletic trainer credential (ATC). Athletic trainers (AT) are licensed health care professionals who collaborate with physicians in the prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses to optimize physical activity and well-being in all types of patients, not just athletes participating in sports.
As awareness grows about the risks of sports-related injuries and the benefits of physical activity throughout the lifespan, employment of athletic trainers is projected to grow more than 20 percent over the next decade. The Mount’s Athletic Training program has begun the Substantive Change Process, seeking approval from the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), to transition the accredited undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree to the graduate level MAT degree.
The MAT Program incorporates a comprehensive blend of academic, clinical, and professional experiences in collaboration with other allied health care professionals.
