The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences currently offers an undergraduate major in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (Pre-Speech-Language Pathology and Pre-Audiology). Eligible students also have the opportunity to complete a 3+2 program with the developing Master of Speech-Language Pathology.

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences also offers a unqiue Speech Language Pathology SLP 3+2 program that combines three years of undergraduate courses and two years of graduate courses to help students obtain their masters in Speech Language Pathology in five years.

The Master of Speech-Language Pathology (MSLP) education program in speech-language pathology (residential) at Mount St. Joseph University is an Applicant for Candidacy by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.

The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is blended with the Mount’s broad liberal arts foundation to prepare students for a variety of careers. Upon graduation, students will be prepared for graduate studies in speech-language pathology or audiology, as well as careers working with children and adults.
A master’s degree is the entry-level degree for professional clinical practice in speech-language pathology and a clinical doctorate is required for audiology. The program incorporates service learning and guided clinical opportunities where students can gain the skills and experiences needed for admission and success in graduate studies.
The curriculum integrates a sequence of interdisciplinary courses designed to provide a thorough understanding of typical human communication processes in both children and adults. This includes speech, language, and hearing development, anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms, the relationship between language and reading, and clinical observations.
Professionals in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology work in a variety of settings and industries, including hospitals, schools, private practices, early intervention, research labs, and corporate settings.
In addition to speech-language pathology and audiology, this major also offers a strong foundation for careers in fields such as:
